1. Background and Objective of 921 EMT
At 01:47AM on September 21, 1999, the central Taiwan was struck by an earthquake that registered 7.3 on the Richter scale, causing 2,455 deaths, more than ten thousands injuries, and property loss up to NTD 300 billion, and putting it among the worst natural disasters of the past century in Taiwan. The 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan was initiated on February 13, 2001, for commemoration and education of disaster awareness and preparedness for the public.
2. Planning process and Core Concepts
I will talk about how the museum was established and how the preserved earthquake ruins are utilized as the core of live lesson materials for exhibition, research, and promotion of educations about earthquake-related sciences and disaster reduction.
3. Management Strategies and Outcomes
I will show the narration service and various activities related to earthquake science and disaster reduction the 921EMT provides and how these services were extended domestically and internationally.
4. Future Prospects
We have a vision to manage the 921EMT as a core base of disaster prevention education.
一、 九二一地震教育園區的創立背景及設立目的
1999年9月21日清晨1時47分，臺灣中部發生芮氏規模7.3的強烈地震，造成2,455人死亡、一萬一千多人受傷，財物損失超過三千億元，是近百年來最大的地震災難。為紀念這次的災難，提醒政府與民眾重視災害的預防及救災措施，於是設置九二一地震教育園區。

回溯園區籌建歷程及如何運用所保存的地震遺址活教材，作為展示、研究與推動地震防災科學教育的核心理念。
三、 經營策略與經營成果
每年提供導覽解說服務及各種地震科學防災教育活動，防災教育的觸角擴及各界，已是國內外知名的防災教育場域。
